Hedges Trimmed, Shaped and Cleared

A hedge has a habit of creeping out of control before you notice. What was a tidy boundary last summer is suddenly leaning over the path, blocking light, and edging towards next door. We bring it back to a clean, even shape and leave your garden looking cared for.

We trim and shape hedges of all kinds, from low garden borders to tall boundary screens. That covers regular upkeep, one-off tidies, formal shaping, and bringing an overgrown hedge back under control. You get a neat finish that suits your garden and a hedge that stays healthy.

Every clipping is cleared away as standard, and 99% of the green waste we collect is recycled. If a hedge has grown too far gone to save, or a large conifer needs its height brought down rather than a simple cut, we can handle that too with our tree removal service or by reducing the crown.

Timing and pricing

Hedge trimming made clear before we start

Before we cut your hedge, we explain the best timing, check for nesting birds where needed, and give you a clear written price for the work.

  • Late summer to late winter is usually the safest window.
  • We check for nesting birds before hedge work in nesting season.
  • Your written quote includes the work, clear-up and green waste.

Know what to expect before you book

We keep things simple: clear advice on timing, a proper check before cutting, and a fixed quote before any work starts.

Best timing The Right Time to Cut Your Hedge

Most hedges are best cut between late summer and late winter. This matters for more than the look of the hedge. It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to disturb a nesting bird, and the RSPB advises avoiding hedge work between 1 March and 31 August, when birds are nesting.

We always check a hedge for active nests before any work in the nesting season. Where birds are present, we leave the hedge alone until they have finished. Your hedge still gets done, just at a time that is safe and within the law.

Different hedges need cutting at different times and at different rates. Fast growers such as leylandii and privet usually need cutting more than once a year to stay sharp, while slower hedges like beech and box need less. When you book, we will tell you what your particular hedge needs and when.

Clear pricing What Affects the Cost of Hedge Trimming

Every hedge is different, so we quote each job on what it actually involves. The main things that affect the price are the height and length of the hedge, how overgrown it has become, how easy it is to reach, and how much waste there is to clear.

How often a hedge is maintained makes a difference too. A hedge kept on a regular trim is quicker and tidier to look after, so it usually works out better value than leaving it for years and facing one heavy cut. We will always give you a clear, written quote before any work starts, so the price you see is the full price, with nothing added at the end.

Common Questions

Hedge Trimming FAQs

Common questions about getting your hedges trimmed, shaped and cleared. If yours is not answered here, we are happy to help.

07778 639748

When is the best time to cut a hedge?

Most hedges are best cut between late summer and late winter, which avoids the bird nesting season. The RSPB advises against hedge work between 1 March and 31 August, and it is against the law to disturb an active nest. We check every hedge for nesting birds before any work in that period.

How often should hedges be trimmed?

Most hedges need cutting once or twice a year, depending on the type. Fast-growing hedges such as leylandii and privet usually need more frequent cuts to stay neat, while slower hedges like beech and box need less. We will tell you what your hedge needs when we quote.

Do you take away all the clippings?

Yes, clearing away all the clippings is part of the job, and 99% of the green waste is recycled. If you would rather keep some of it, for example for your own compost, just let us know and we will leave it.

Will there be any hidden costs?

No. The price we quote is the full price for the work, with nothing added at the end. We put everything in writing before we start, including the clearing and removal of waste, so you know exactly what you are paying.

Can you cut a very overgrown or tall hedge?

Yes, we regularly bring overgrown and tall hedges back to a clean shape. If a hedge has grown beyond saving, or a large conifer would be better reduced in height than trimmed, we will tell you honestly and explain the options.

Are you insured to work on hedges near boundaries and buildings?

Yes. We hold full public liability insurance and our team is NPTC and Lantra qualified, so hedges close to fences, walls, and buildings are cut safely and properly.
