Who Are Treescapes Garden Services in Henlow?

Treescapes Garden Services is a family run tree surgery and garden care firm covering Henlow and the villages around it. The yard sits on Station Road in Lower Stondon, inside the SG16 Henlow postcode.

Tree work here falls under Central Bedfordshire Council. Quotes are free and usually come back within 24 hours.

Ask where your tree surgeon is based

Plenty of people expect a tree surgeon covering a village this size to drive in from Bedford, Luton or Milton Keynes. Ours is closer than that. The yard is on Station Road in Lower Stondon, and the postcode on the door reads Henlow.

Being that near shows up in small practical ways. A quote visit takes minutes rather than half a morning, and coming back to check something after high winds never turns into a special trip. Firms advertising for Henlow work from thirty miles away have to build that travel into the price somewhere.

Villages either side of us get the same service, including just up the road in Stotfold and Hitchin. There is every town and village on our list on the areas page.

Treat the village and the Camp as two different jobs

Henlow parish holds two settlements, and their gardens are nothing alike. The old village around St Mary's church has mature trees standing close to boundaries, walls and older buildings. Work there goes slowly, usually taken down in sections rather than dropped in one piece.

Henlow Camp grew up around the airfield from the First World War onwards. Gardens there tend to be postwar estate plots with younger, faster growing trees and more shared boundaries, so hedges and overhanging branches come up far more often than big removals.

Change is coming as well. The base is due to close in 2026, and a developer is preparing plans for up to 270 homes on land east of Hitchin Road. New gardens bring new planting, and boundary hedges that will want a shape putting on them within a few years.

Pick the job you need

Find the work below, or call us on 07778 639748 if you are not sure which it is.

Crown reduction

Take height and weight off a tree so it suits the garden again. We can scale a tree back without losing it instead of removing it.

Felling and removal

Some trees really do have to go. We take a tree out altogether, in sections where space is tight.

Stump grinding

A stump left in a lawn is a trip hazard and a mower killer. We can deal with the stump afterwards on the same visit.

Emergency call outs

High winds do not wait for office hours. Ring us if there is a tree down across a drive or road.

Hedges

Estate boundaries and old village hedges both want a firm line. We handle keeping boundary hedges in shape through the season.

Everything else in the garden

Trees are only half the work. Ask about clearance, mowing and the rest of the garden.

Check the council record before you book anyone

Henlow sits under Central Bedfordshire Council. Hitchin and Letchworth sit under North Herts. Those two keep separate tree records and separate planning teams, so a Henlow garden is never checked on the same system as one a few miles south. Getting that wrong is the most common reason a job stalls before it starts.

Part of the old village lies inside the Henlow conservation area, where trees are protected whether or not they carry a Tree Preservation Order. Six weeks of written notice has to go to the council before felling, lopping, topping or uprooting, and doing the work inside those six weeks without consent is an offence.

Applying costs nothing, so the only real price of doing this properly is a bit of patience. These checks happen before we quote, not after. There is more on what the council checks before tree work, and you can read the council's own guidance on trees in conservation areas (opens in a new tab) as well.

Ask Us to Check First

We will look the tree up before quoting. Free, and no obligation.

Judge a quote on what it includes

No two trees cost the same, so every job gets quoted on its own. Size and species set the starting point. After that it comes down to access, what is standing underneath, whether the tree has to come down in sections, and how much waste there is to shift.

Being outside the VAT threshold means the figure quoted is the figure paid. Waste goes with us and gets recycled. For the longer version, we have written up what pushes a tree job up or down in price.

What to look for

Look for the things that are hard to fake

A qualified arborist on the job

Joe is NPTC and Lantra qualified and works on the trees himself. Nobody gets handed to a crew they have never met.

Insured to a real level

£5m public liability and £10m employers liability. Ask any firm for those figures before they climb anything.

Still the same family

Same family, same patch, since the late 1980s. Quotes usually land within 24 hours of us seeing the job.

Questions we get asked around Henlow

Do I need permission to cut down a tree in Henlow?

You might, and the check goes through Central Bedfordshire Council. A Tree Preservation Order or a spot inside the Henlow conservation area each bring rules with them. We look it up before quoting so nobody gets caught out.

What if the tree is already dead?

A dead tree in a conservation area still needs five days of notice to the council. Take clear photographs before anything gets cut, because pictures settle most arguments later. Anything genuinely dangerous gets made safe first and evidenced properly.

Do you take the waste away?

Yes, clearing up is part of every job. Wood, brash and chippings all leave with us, and we hold a waste carrier licence. Logs can stay behind if you want them for the fire.

What if it is my neighbour's tree hanging over my garden?

Branches crossing the boundary can normally be cut back to the line, but the cuttings and any fruit still belong to your neighbour. Protection changes that, because a Tree Preservation Order or a conservation area covers overhanging branches too. On the estates around the Camp, where boundaries are shared, a quiet word before anyone starts saves a lot of bother later.

How quickly can you quote?

Usually within 24 hours of seeing the job. Quotes are free and carry no obligation. Anything needing a council check takes a little longer, and we will say so up front.

Do you work to BS 3998?

Yes. BS 3998 is the British Standard for tree work, and it sets out how cuts should be made so a tree recovers properly. Poor pruning shows up years later, which is why the standard matters more than it sounds.
