This is the second time I have used this company. First was to completely remove a conifer tree , and yesterday , to trim back some willow trees at the back of the garden. From start to finish this company was excellent. From coming out to quote and then when they came out to actually do the job. They arrived at agreed time . We're excellent at keeping everywhere clean and tidy .Everything had to go through my kitchen as there is no access through my garden, also the trees were actually on school premises with a large , high wire fence so that made it extremely difficult for the team . Extremely happy with all the did .I would definitely use this company again .

Darren and the Treescapes team have been fantastic. On time and did an excellent job. They took off 25% off some of the bigger trees and did away with a lot of the dead wood. I can highly recommend to anyone in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire area looking for tree surgery.

We are delighted that we booked Darren and his team to do some work for us. From my initial call to him, the service we received was friendly, helpful - giving us advise from his 30 plus years of experience - and also every professional. In addition, having made an initial site visit, Darren was able to book us in for a few hours of work a couple of days later. The work included pruning some trees and some bushes, taking out and replacing some other bushes/plants with multi purpose compost added, edging the front beds and laying bark chippings on them, plus applying a top dressing to the bed in the rear garden. They cleared up all the waste and took it away, too. All at what we considered to be a reasonable price. Darren was also flexible and agreed to prune a couple of trees and a bush in our neighbours garden. They were also very pleased with the work undertaken. In summary, we can thorougly recommend Treescapes Garden Services and they will have repeat business from ourselves and our neighbours in due course.

What a pleasure to see Darren and the team in our garden every time! They were prepared to work together with us to create a garden exactly like we were hoping for. We are left, after every job, with a feeling of real satisfaction and have never felt exploited. They are reliable, always well prepared and do high quality work. We can only describe them as the very best.

An absolutely fantastic service from start to finish. Darren and his team were polite and friendly. He talked me through everything so we had a clear understanding of what was to be achieved and some tips on maintaining my garden. Highly efficient and impeccably tidy. Would not hesitate to recommend!

Treescapes Garden Services in One Minute

Treescapes Garden Services is a family run tree surgeon in Meppershall and the villages around it, trading for 37 years from a yard in Lower Stondon.

The team is NPTC and Lantra qualified, insured to £5m, and takes on tree work and garden work alike. Every quote is free.

Our Yard Is About a Mile Outside Meppershall

Our yard sits on Station Road in Lower Stondon, roughly a mile from Meppershall High Street. That closeness does two practical things for you. We can come and look at a tree without making a trip of it, so there is no travel padding sitting inside your price. If a job finishes early, we are near enough to fit yours in rather than push it back a fortnight.

Being a local tree surgeon in Meppershall is not a coverage claim on a map for us. It is the next village along.

What Is Protected in Meppershall, and What Is Not

Yes, Meppershall is in a conservation area, designated on 12 February 1981.

If your tree stands inside it, Central Bedfordshire Council needs six weeks written notice before the work starts. Dead or dangerous trees need five working days instead. A Tree Preservation Order works differently again and can apply to a tree anywhere in the village.

Three more things apply in Meppershall. Open whichever one matters to your tree.

Trees near The Hills or St Thomas's Chapel

Meppershall also has two scheduled monuments. The Hills motte and bailey castle sits beside the church, and St Thomas's Chapel is the second. Work to trees on a scheduled monument can need Scheduled Monument Consent (opens in a new tab) from Historic England, which is a separate permission from anything the council issues.

When in the year the work can happen

Timing matters as well as permission. The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 makes it an offence to damage a bird's nest while it is in use, and the main nesting season runs from around March to August. Tree work does not stop over the summer, but any tree has to be checked for active nests first, and some jobs are better held back until autumn. In a village ringed by farmland and hedgerow, that check is worth doing properly.

Why the conservation area boundary may still move

The 1981 designation recorded where the boundary ran but never explained why, and no Conservation Area Appraisal has been written since. The village was consulted in early 2026 about extending the boundary towards Monks Pool and The Coneygate meadow, so the line may yet move. That is why we check the current position before quoting rather than after.

If you want the whole picture, how the permission check works in full is set out on our blog.

One Team for the Trees and the Garden

Tree surgery in Meppershall is only half of what we do. Pick the job below, or call us on 07778 639748 if you are not sure which it is.

Crown reduction

We can take height out of a wind-exposed tree so it suits the garden again, rather than removing it.

Felling and removal

Have a tree taken out completely where it is past saving.

Stump grinding

Clear the stump that is left behind afterwards.

Hedges

Keep a boundary hedge under control through the season.

The wider garden jobs

We lay turf, put up fencing and handle clearance and mowing.

Booking tree and garden services in Meppershall from one team means one visit, one quote and one crew who tidy up before they leave.

Hilltop Trees Take the Wind Differently

A tree grown on Meppershall's ridge is not the same tree as one in a sheltered town garden.

Thin it too hard, or take weight off one side only, and you can leave it less stable than it was before anyone touched it. So we look at where a tree stands before deciding how much comes off.

Where a tree stands decides how much can safely come off it.
Why exposure changes the way a tree is pruned

Years of prevailing wind make a tree lay down extra reaction wood on the side taking the strain, and its whole shape is an answer to that pressure.

The village runs in a line along the High Street with open farmland either side, which means exposure changes a lot over a short distance. A mature hedge sheltering one garden can leave the one next door fully open.

Access Decides the Price More Than Size Does

The first thing that moves a tree quote is not the size of the tree, it is whether we can reach it. A tree the chipper can pull alongside is a different job from one where every branch travels through the house or down a narrow side passage, and on the older properties along Meppershall High Street that difference is real money. Height, species, what sits underneath and whether the council needs notice all count as well.

Every quote covers the clearing up. Wood, brash and chippings leave with us under our waste carrier licence, and 99% of what we take away is recycled. Logs can stay behind if you want them for the fire.

You will usually have a written quote within 24 hours of us seeing the job, and the figure we give you is the figure you pay.

Because the quote already covers the clearing up and the waste, nothing gets added on at the end.

Ask for a Price

There is no charge for coming to look and no obligation afterwards.

£5m of Insurance Behind Every Job We Do

Insured to £5m

We carry £5m public liability and £10m employers liability insurance, which means that if something goes wrong in your garden you are not the one left carrying it.

Qualified, and working to BS 3998

The team is NPTC and Lantra qualified, and we work to BS 3998, the British Standard setting out how cuts should be made so a tree recovers properly. Poor pruning shows up years later, long after the cheap quote has been forgotten.

Family run for 37 years

Treescapes has stayed family run for 37 years and holds 5 stars on Google.

An arborist in Meppershall who can name their qualifications, their standard and their insurance figure is telling you exactly what you are buying. You can see the tree work we take on across the whole area, all of it done by the same crew.

What Meppershall Customers Ask Before Booking

Do I need permission to cut down a tree in Meppershall?

Quite possibly, and we do that check for you before quoting. A Tree Preservation Order or a spot inside the conservation area each bring their own rules. Cutting first and asking later can bring a fine, so nobody should be guessing at this.

Does work near The Hills need different permission?

It can. The Hills is a scheduled monument, and work to trees on a scheduled monument may need Scheduled Monument Consent from Historic England as well as anything the council requires. Urgent safety work is treated differently. We find out which applies before we start.

Do I need to be at home while you work?

No, as long as we can get to the tree and you are happy for us to go ahead. Plenty of customers leave a gate unlocked and come home to a finished job. We will always ring you afterwards to talk through what we found.

How much does a tree surgeon in Meppershall cost?

It depends on access, height and what sits under the tree, so we price the job after seeing it rather than over the phone. A phone figure is a guess, and guesses go up on the day. Our visit is free and the written quote that follows is fixed.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. We are not VAT registered, so the price we quote is the full price with nothing added on top. The only time a figure changes is if you ask for extra work once we are there, and we would agree that with you first.
