Tree Surgery

What Does a Tree Surgeon Do?

A tree surgeon, also called an arborist, is trained to care for, prune, and safely remove trees. We keep trees healthy, safe, and the right size, and take them down when they have to go.

It is skilled work, often done high up with specialist kit, and it can be risky in the wrong hands. Our team is NPTC and Lantra qualified and fully insured, so the job is done safely and well.

We work across North Herts and Central Beds, on everything from a single garden tree to bigger jobs. Whatever your tree needs, we can help.

Tree permissions

Do You Need Permission to Work on a Tree?

Sometimes, yes. Some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order. Many older areas are conservation areas too, where you need the council's permission before any work.

TPO checks

Protected trees need checking first

A Tree Preservation Order can limit what work can be done. Working on a protected tree without permission can mean a fine, so it is worth checking before anything starts.

Conservation areas may need approval

Many older areas are conservation areas, where the council may need to be notified before tree work. We know how this works locally and can help with the application before we start.

Clear tree surgery pricing

What Does Tree Surgery Cost?

The cost depends on the job, so we give you a fixed price after a free site visit. The main factors are the size and number of trees, the type of work, and how easy the tree is to reach.

A small prune is a quick job. A large removal with tricky access is a much bigger one, so the two are priced very differently. Whether the waste needs taking away also affects the price. We go through it all with you so it is clear from the start.

We are upfront about money. The price we quote is the full price, with nothing added at the end. The site visit and quote are free, with no obligation.

What is the difference between a tree surgeon and an arborist?

There is no difference, they are two names for the same thing. Arborist is the technical term for a tree surgeon, someone trained to care for and manage trees. We are qualified arborists, so whichever word you use, you are in the right place.

Are your tree surgeons qualified and insured?

Yes. Our team is NPTC and Lantra qualified and fully insured. Tree work is skilled and can be risky, so using qualified, insured people protects you and your property.

Do I need permission to remove a tree?

Sometimes. If the tree has a Tree Preservation Order, or sits in a conservation area, you need the council's permission first. We can check this for you and help with the application before any work starts.

Do you clear away the branches and waste?

Yes, we take away all the branches and green waste and recycle 99% of it. We leave your garden clean and tidy, with nothing for you to deal with.

Do you offer emergency tree work?

Yes, we can help with storm damage and dangerous trees that cannot wait. Call us as soon as you can and we will tell you what we can do and how quickly.
