Our Firewood and Logs

Most firewood looks much the same in a photo. What matters is how dry it is and where it has come from, and that is where we are different.

Our logs come from our own tree work across the area, from the trees we fell and the larger branches we prune. That gives us a steady local supply of wood through the year. It is mostly hardwood, cut and split ready for stacking.

Because wood needs to be dry to burn well, the best thing to do is ask us what we have ready and how long it has been drying. We will give you a straight answer so you know what you are getting.

Ask what is ready now Availability changes through the year, so give us a call and we will tell you what logs we have dry and ready.

Why Dry Wood Burns Better

Dry, well-seasoned wood burns hotter and cleaner than wet wood. It is easier to light, it gives off more heat, and it leaves less soot in your stove and chimney.

Wet or green wood is the opposite. It is hard to get going, it smokes, and a lot of its energy is wasted boiling off the water inside it. So the dryness of your logs makes a real difference to your fire.

It is worth knowing that firewood sold in small amounts in England should be certified as ready to burn, which means it is dry enough to use straight away. Whoever you buy from, it is always fair to ask how dry the wood is before you order.

Ask how dry the logs are We will tell you what we have ready and how long it has been drying, so you know whether it is ready to burn now or better kept for later.
Easier to light Dry logs catch more easily and get the fire going faster.
More heat Less energy is wasted boiling moisture out of the wood.
Cleaner burn Well-seasoned wood creates less smoke and less soot.

Common Questions

Firewood Questions, Answered

Straight answers about our logs, drying, delivery, and how much firewood you may need.

07778 639748

What kind of wood do you sell?

Our logs are mostly hardwood, cut from the trees we fell and prune across the area. Hardwood burns hotter and lasts longer than softwood, which makes it good for stoves and open fires. Call us to find out what we have ready.

Is your firewood ready to burn?

The honest answer is to ask us what we have in stock and how long it has been drying, and we will tell you straight. Dry wood burns far better than wet wood, so it is always worth checking before you buy, with us or any supplier.

How much firewood do I need?

It depends on how often you light your fire and how cold the winter is. A regular open fire or stove gets through a fair amount over a season, so many people order a bulk load at a time. Tell us how you use your fire and we will help you work out a sensible amount.

Do you deliver?

Yes, we deliver locally across North Hertfordshire and Central Bedfordshire. Tell us where you are when you call and we will confirm delivery for your area. Collection can sometimes be arranged too, so just ask.
