New Fences and Fence Repairs

People come to us for one of two things: a brand new fence, or a repair to one that has been damaged or has started to fail. We do both.

We supply and fit new garden fencing, and we repair or replace existing fencing, across North Herts and Central Beds. Maybe a single panel has blown down. Maybe you want a whole new boundary. We can sort either.

You also get the bonus of one local team for the whole garden. The same people who fit your fence can look after your trees and handle our garden maintenance and clearance service, so there is no need to line up different firms.

New Fence Installation

A new fence starts with a free site visit to measure up and talk through what you want. We then take away the old fence if there is one, set the posts firmly, and fit the panels.

Setting the posts properly is the part that matters most. A fence is only as strong as its posts, so we make sure they are solid and the line is straight before the panels go on.

We take the old fence and the offcuts away when we are done, and leave your garden clean and tidy. As a licensed waste carrier, we dispose of it all properly.

Fence options

Fence Types We Fit

We fit the popular types of garden fencing, and we will advise on what suits your garden, budget and the job you need the fence to do.

Close-board feather-edge garden fence with strong posts.

Close-board fencing

Strong, solid and private.

Close-board, also called feather-edge, is the best choice when you want a strong, long-lasting boundary with good privacy. It is a solid option for back gardens, side boundaries and exposed spots.

Overlap garden fence panel fitted between posts.

Overlap panels

Traditional and cost-effective.

Overlap panel fencing is a popular choice for a neat garden boundary at a sensible price. It gives a familiar, traditional look and works well where you want a straightforward replacement.

Low decorative picket fence in a front garden.

Picket fencing

Low, decorative and tidy.

Picket fencing is ideal for front gardens, softer boundaries and areas where you want separation without closing the space in. It gives a clean, decorative finish.

Garden trellis fitted above a fence for climbing plants.

Trellis

Extra height or planting support.

Trellis can be used on top of a fence for extra height, or on its own for climbing plants and lighter screening. It is a good choice when you want privacy without making the garden feel boxed in.

Post-and-rail fence in a larger rural garden.

Post-and-rail fencing

Simple, sturdy and open.

Post-and-rail fencing is suited to larger gardens, open boundaries and more rural settings. It is sturdy, simple and useful where you want to mark a boundary without blocking the view.

Not sure which fence is right? Tell us whether you want privacy, security, a smarter look, or a better boundary, and we will point you the right way.

Built properly

Posts, Gates and Gravel Boards

A good fence is not just about the panels. The posts, base, gate fittings and finish all decide how well it stands up to daily use and bad weather.

New garden fence with solid posts and gravel boards.
Strong posts, neat gravel boards and properly fitted gates help your fence last longer.

Solid posts

The part that decides how long the fence lasts.

The posts decide how long a fence lasts. Concrete posts last longer than timber set straight into the ground, because they do not rot at the base where the damp sits.

Gravel boards

Keep the panels away from wet ground.

A gravel board is a strip along the bottom of the fence that keeps the panels off the wet ground. It protects the panels, and it means a single panel can be swapped out later without taking the whole fence apart.

Gates and fixtures

Finished properly, not left half done.

We fit garden gates and all the fixtures too, so your fencing is complete and works the way you need it to.

Not sure what your fence needs? We can look at the boundary, explain the best post and board options, and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Clear fixed pricing

What Garden Fencing Costs

The cost depends on the job, so we give you a fixed price after a free site visit to measure up. You know the full price before any work starts.

Fence length, height and type

The biggest pricing factor.

The two biggest factors are the length and height of the fence, and the type of fence and posts you choose. Taller or longer fencing needs more materials and more time on site.

Old fence removal

Taking down and clearing away.

If an old fence needs taking away, we include that in your quote. We can remove the old panels, posts and offcuts, then leave the garden tidy when the work is done.

Ground and access

Slopes, roots and awkward spaces.

Ground conditions and access can affect the price. Sloping ground, roots, awkward corners, tight side access or long carry distances can all change how long the job takes.

No hidden extras

The quote is the full price.

We are upfront about money. The price we quote is the full price, with nothing added at the end. The site visit and quote are free, with no obligation.

This is the second time I have used this company. First was to completely remove a conifer tree , and yesterday , to trim back some willow trees at the back of the garden. From start to finish this company was excellent. From coming out to quote and then when they came out to actually do the job. They arrived at agreed time . We're excellent at keeping everywhere clean and tidy .Everything had to go through my kitchen as there is no access through my garden, also the trees were actually on school premises with a large , high wire fence so that made it extremely difficult for the team . Extremely happy with all the did .I would definitely use this company again .

Darren and the Treescapes team have been fantastic. On time and did an excellent job. They took off 25% off some of the bigger trees and did away with a lot of the dead wood. I can highly recommend to anyone in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire area looking for tree surgery.

We are delighted that we booked Darren and his team to do some work for us. From my initial call to him, the service we received was friendly, helpful - giving us advise from his 30 plus years of experience - and also every professional. In addition, having made an initial site visit, Darren was able to book us in for a few hours of work a couple of days later. The work included pruning some trees and some bushes, taking out and replacing some other bushes/plants with multi purpose compost added, edging the front beds and laying bark chippings on them, plus applying a top dressing to the bed in the rear garden. They cleared up all the waste and took it away, too. All at what we considered to be a reasonable price. Darren was also flexible and agreed to prune a couple of trees and a bush in our neighbours garden. They were also very pleased with the work undertaken. In summary, we can thorougly recommend Treescapes Garden Services and they will have repeat business from ourselves and our neighbours in due course.

Common Questions

Garden Fencing Questions, Answered

Straight answers about fence repairs, new fencing, concrete posts, gravel boards, waste removal and boundary ownership.

07778 639748

Do you repair fences or only fit new ones?

We do both. We fit brand new fencing and we repair or replace damaged and failing fences, from a single blown-down panel to a whole boundary. Just tell us what has happened and we will sort it.

What is the most hard-wearing type of fence?

Close-board, also called feather-edge, is the strongest and most hard-wearing choice. That is why it is popular for privacy and for exposed, windy spots. Its solid build stands up to the weather better than lighter panels. We can advise on the best option for your garden.

Do you take the old fence away?

Yes, we take away your old fence and all the offcuts, and recycle what we can. As a licensed waste carrier, we dispose of it properly, so your garden is left clean and tidy.

Do you fit concrete posts and gravel boards?

Yes, we can fit concrete posts and gravel boards. They last longer than timber posts set into the ground, because they resist rot. They also let a single panel be replaced later without taking the whole fence apart. We will talk you through the options at the site visit.

Who owns and maintains a boundary fence?

There is no automatic rule that you own the fence on the left or the right. That is a common myth. Ownership is set out in your property deeds or title plan, which usually show which boundaries are yours. It is worth checking yours before any work, and we are happy to help where we can.
